Sick, again?!

Yeah, that's me... only what I'd look like if i was a boy, and ten years younger.

What the crap. I am sick, again. I JUST had a fever two weeks ago, PLUS a nasty ol' cold sore on my lip. And now, two weeks later, during finals, I'm sick again. And not that anyone wants to know, but I'm also on my period. Son of a crap.

I'm so sick of school. That's what making me sick.. uh, yeah! It must be. Well, I'm sure it's a sweet little, brightly colored-tied with a bow-just in time for christmas-package of things.

1-The Subways. Every germ possible is transmitted in a congested, slightly warm, and completely uncomfortable train car. Everything from your common cold to who knows--TB. (Yeah--I learned that in microbio.) yuck. I used to think that riding the subways was cool.. oh silly silly Bean. Every tard-muffin rides on there from the hours of 11pm--on. Just when I'm getting off work. lovely. Yes, I feel bad for a lot of the folks on there. But just like Disney-Land, it's fun for the first 8 hours--lines, watching people, having a good time-then you've ridden the cool rides, and you're ready to bust out of there, past the candy rocks, the fudge, and the creepy, yet cool, Disney themed windows. You make like a baby and head out.

2-Work. As a server, I have about 6 pens that I have to watch very closely. There are pen-thieves among the workplace. I finally bought some bright rainbow ones that are MINE! MINE! ALL MINE! Either way, the pens get shared among all kinds of people, which I doubt wash their hands after using the bathroom, or after riding the train. Germs, germs, and more germs.

3-The weather. I came to work SOOO heated one day. It was both snowing AND raining. PICK ONE, I said. But you can't have both! c'mon! So it made it icy and cold, yet every time I walked by a building, I got a huge drop of water right on my forehead. Remember that game aggravation? I remember I used to get SOOO mad at Meagan during that game, so yeah, I got THAT mad.

I think the worse thing about being sick is I dont have my Mommy here to take care of me. That was the best. You guys know what I'm talking about.. making custard, soup, buying 7-up, laying cold towels on our foreheads, cleaning up our boogies (which SHE ABSOLUTELY HATES!) and vomit, buying us whatever we wanted at the grocery store. I love my Mommy. She's the best.

It makes me sad that I don't have my Mommy around me. I CAN'T wait to come home. I may even pretend that I'm sick, just so she pays attention to me, and only me. With these cute babies, the baby of the Maughan family has some freak'n tough competition. :(

So I'm being a baby right now, so message me and tell me you love me. I said. And tell me what you want for christmas. And Weston, I don't want it to be some ridiculous Indian Jone's bag that's darn near impossible to find. Why can't you just say boxers or something easy... always gotta be a pain.

I love you fam. I'll see you in about a week or so. Wish me luck on my finals. I love you all. :)

Sassy pants made me do it.

Stacey suggested that I update my blog.... soooo finally--despite the fact that I have a Spanish test tomorrow morning, and the fact that I'm sick as a dog. (pounding headache, sniffly nose, sore throat)-Granted, I'm NOT having a baby like either of my sister in laws! I've decided to post some pictures and fill you in as to what's happening in the biiiig apple. Or more precisely, Queens.

Since I've had enough of chickens and cockroaches, I've moved to Queens with the Greeks. At my job I've made a new friend, her name is Kelly :) And it just worked out--I moved into her apt in Astoria/Queens and I love it here. I finally feel like I have a home.. ish. :) I really miss the house in CA. :( Mom called me today at work while she was literally walking out of the house for the last time. It makes me miss my puppies. :( I WANT ONE FOR CHRISTMAS... i said. hint hint**

Things I've done since the last post....

School: its school. It's going good. It's almost over. I took 18 units this semester.. wont be doing that again...that plus working = too much. Either way, I can't wait to graduate in May!

Birthday: Celebrated the day mom made lovins and had me!!! I had all my pals from work come and celebrate Britt-day and the end of Ramadan (a fasting period for muslims).

Pre-Thanksgiving: Went to CA!! And saw Mom and megs and the fam :) Mom made an AWESOME pre thanksgiving dinner....just for her baby :) yes guys--mom does love me the most--but no need to cry about it.. :( B-O-O H-O-O.(i just played brad's voice in my head while typing that). hahah.

Halloween: Used the same costume as last year since I didn't want to waste money again.. :) walked around the city and the parade...it was like Disney land times 10... lots of people and lots of people watching.

Thanksgiving: Went to New Hampshire, it was beautiful like last time, but WAY more fog and cold cold cold..and an itty bitty bit of snow! (yay christmas!) Missed the family. Had good food, but it wasn't mom's. Tried green bean casserole for the first and LAST time. WHY this is an american tradition...i don't know....I miss mom's yams, especially when Meagan puts too many marshmallows on top, making the yams catch on fire, and mom mysteriously loses her ring in the yams. yummm.

Now that's what I call thanksgiving.

BAD....

WORSE.. he he he.

Even though I may not see some of you until my graduation :) (Please come!) It's always nice to see the current me :) Which brings me to my next point... MY HAIR IS RED!! woo hoo!!!! I decided that our side of the family needed more of the redhead..... Aunt Nancy took it all... so I've decided to bring the sexy back! muahahahaa. Hope you like :) I got it done at Vidal Sassoon in NY... very very nice.. they spent 6 hours working on my mane! But I love it :)

Back on the Blog

Hey Fam :) It's been a while since I've been back on the blog--so it's time to pick up where I left off. Not only is it a great tool to share pics and silly stories--but I've come to find that I have a few dedicated readers---so fans..... I BEESE BACK :)

Here's a few KEY words to sum up what's gone on so far...
-Cockroaches
-Germans
-Sex Changes
-Employment
-NH, CT.
-Soft Spoken Asians
-A love for pathogens

OKAY.. so now that I've given you the beefy headlines---we'll bite into the juicy (turkey) burger of Brittany's life. (side note--I no longer eat cow... yes Weston-- I still love a nice Steak. But I can no longer sink my teefers into moo cows.)

-COCKROACHES: I have cockroaches in my apt.... I took a picture of the dead remains--I'm going to email it to my landlord. yummy. We battled it out, I was vulnerable--in a towel--fresh from my shower--and he (or she) was just strolling down the dark corners of the hallway. I was told not to smash them---because their babies go everywhere--GROSS. But I wasn't going to let poquito cucaracha go. (Why the pests in my house are spanish--is a mystery to me, maybe its because of speedy gonzales, and the cockroaches in MIB...either way they speak spanish.) I smashed it...I took my roommates shoe (not mine, of course) and "tomó su vida." Took his life. It was sad. But sorry, I'm not into Cucarachas---at least he wasn't thrown out the window.

-Germans. I sublet my room to a German named Robert, who eats nothing but hotdogs, and for the first time watched Jeopardy--only to find that the show does suck--except for the infamous Alex Trabek. He turned out to be pretty cool. Not only because I made a little money off of him, but it meant no rent while I was in CA! :) And CA was lovely. D-Land, Family and the Beach :) Doesn't get any better.

-Sex Changes--YES, I'm still a girl--despite the heinous picture that Mom insisted on using for Meagan's wedding. Really mom? Really. HOWEVER... if I were in fact a herm, it would have proved useful during my last regatta of the season. I was a girl, and we couldn't race in a men's race. It's like having a guy in a girls soccer match... ( i guess). Even though we wouldn't have placed. I was still upset. And my friend Ed thought it'd be funny to tell the Ref that I used to be a man--all in front of 15 race boats from various prestigious schools. AWESOME.

-NH/CT. I Went to Connecticut for the first time---saw my first white hooker on the street--classy, and even some crack addicts--sweet! Makes me glad that I didn't push the Yale option for school. The town was beautiful---where the school was----but the rest, blah. Also when to NH.. very beautiful--lots of trees.. lots of smokers..lots of cats...good pizza, and bad ice cream. THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF A MALT!!!

Employment--I HAVE A JOB!! wooo hoo! I work for a restaurant called "POUND AND PENCE" It's an English pub and restaurant. It's in the financial district, next to the world trade center, so its all Wall Street/Business people etc... which means awesome tips! I'm a server-its my first time serving, ever. But the girls that work there are awesome! They are all from different countries--Hungary, Russia, Mexico, Bulgaria etc... The manager is great, and again--the $$$!!! so great.

School----I love econ, but i've come to find that it's better to just teach myself. My teacher is this great, and very sweet, Asian man, who talks VERY quietly. So... i basically teach myself, and show up to make it look like I'm learning from him.
Pathogens--My mircrobio teacher is amazing, he works for the FDA and we talk about food bourne illness all day! So you have to listen to me!
-Don't go on cruises.
-Don't eat raw oysters.
-Always wash your hands.
-Wash all your fruit and veggies.
I'll make a whole post dedicated to my new found knowledge---so listen to me, I said.

Well fam... thats about all I can think of for now. I dont want this blog to be too crazy. So I'll end it now.. but I'll try and be more active in blogging :) I love the blogs fam---Nicole, Wes, Tyse, Stace, Matt, Em..... very cool :) Love it all :)

Love you guys! SO MUCH!

<3 Brit-ta-ny (yes, I am now demanding the correct pronunciation of my name, I said.)

(ps... all the pics are from CT/NH..and one of me... to show you how much I've grown! Just like Willem! :) hahaah.

New York State Collegiate Rowing Championship 07'

Hey Fam!

So...new things happening to me.

* I was in my first regatta (crew race). Since we finally have enough people to make a four person boat (co-ed) we were able to race. Sadly, we had to enter a men's novice 4 race. If you have even one male on the boat--it's considered a men's boat. So we were eaten up like Meagan's Wedding cake.

But....we still raced and we finished the race--we caught 2 crabs--and I know what you're thinking--NO its not the crab--as in "let's have a crab dinner!", NOR is it the crabs that Beavis and Butthead caught in their manly spots while serving fast food--crabs are "caught" when an oar is taken away by the forces of the water, and the oar is out of your hands, which slows the boat down and serves as a major disadvantage over other boats.

So back to the drawing board. We have practice every morning this week, and we are working HARD. We had a great practice this morning, so things are getting much better. So we'll see if our hard work is paying off--because I'd like to see some rewards for the 4:50am wake up and painful backaches.

*Next new thing... Finals are almost over! YES!! I have one presentation tomorrow night, and after that I am FREE for a month. And its back to CA. And MOM---I expect a trip to Disneyland :) and to San Diego. I miss the OCEAN so much. Yes, i'm on the water everyday but nothing compares to the West coast--and Oceanside :)

So.. I'm counting down the days :) I can't wait to see you guys!

*ONE more thing--Meagan's Wedding Pictures can be viewed on my picasa Web Album--just paste this link into your URL: -----> http://picasaweb.google.com/bmmaughan/MeaganSWedding

Love you guys!

Rents and Rent

Yo! I am SO EXCITED TO BE SEEING MY FAM THIS WEEKEND. Ya'll have NO idea! I miss you guys SO much. :) I am sooooo excited! I only wish that I was done with school so I could hang longer :(

So anyway--just to re-cap-since it's been a while since I've done a blog.

-I'm still on crew--getting more blisters, and hurting my back, arms, and knees. But I am entered to RACE in two weeks! woo hoo! My first race of the season.

-I MOVED! yes! I moved to Riverside--Upper west side area--and to freak out the parents--HARLEM! It's kinda Harlem but not really. I'm right next to Columbia University. And my room is HUGE, I have a full kitchen, bathroom and TWO large Dining rooms/living rooms. It's awesome.

-School is good. I'm done May 10th! And my grades are A-okay. Well not A's exactly, but they are good :)

AND.... here are the pictures of me and the "rents". :) I love you mammajamma and papa! See you soon.

OH-- AND LET ME KNOW--if you guys want anything from NYC!!! (YES TYSE---I'm going to try and bring some magnolia cupcakes-boooya!)

Minutes away from death.

Apparently, I'd have to be in below freezing water roughly 20 minutes until hypothermia is irreversible. So family, start sending you love and sympathies now, cause I was 19 minutes away from death!!! hahaha. So you wanna hear the story? yeah, I thought you did.

Early Wednesday morning of last week, I went to row on the East Harlem River. Mind you, its 30 degrees outside with wind chill, a dead man was found in this very river, AND its sooo cold that ice has formed beneath the dock--lifting it up, AND it's soo cold that ice is forming on the oars. IN THIS VERY WATER my fellow crew-mate, Tiffany, and I were rowing in the double. (four oars--two people--and cold freakn' water). We were doing great--minus the frost bite on my hands (we can't wear gloves). Finally, we get to the point where we both row--together (before we were taking turns). And before I know it, we both loose control of our Port oars and tip....we both go for a little swim in the below freezing water. AWESOME!!! luckily we were both smart and kept our heads dry and above water... but I was rushed back in the launch, and had to strip down... of course the warm water wasn't working at the boat house... so i had to strip down, change clothes and stay in the warm van.

Needless to say, I'm OK :) It was a rough day, but I lived through it. Just remember the next time you get mad at me---I almost DIED. 19 minutes away from death, anyway. And luckily for Mom and Dad, they weren't there to witness the near death experience, but they were back at my shoebox ready for hugs and coa coa. :) So---here is a picture of me sculling a few days after, on the single--this is an ocean boat---so flipping is pretty difficult--thank goodness :)

Kill the mice.

In addition to my pet roommate--chicken--a papillon dog... aka rat... aka football with legs...--I've gained some new friends, mice. So Crhis and I caught one, put him in a plastic box and kept him hostage for a while---feeding him jalapeno cheese, and bbq pringles. (We figured he was a hispanic rat--so we spiced things up a bit). But despite our kindness...hombre decided to make run for the border...he moved the top off, and jumped out. It was quite the spectacle.

Round TWO: we caught yet ANOTHER mouse, this time putting him in a vase with a paper towel over it for breathing purposes. This homeboy chewed his way through the paper towel and hid in the closet. SO TWICE we've been duped.

And I'm sure you're asking yourself, why Brittany? Why would you hold your furry little friends hostage, and not just KILL them on the spot? Well... we wanted to hang glide our friends out the window. We were thinking...paper airplanes... a parachute of sorts...you know... having a good time with our friends.. as they fly down to their death. Unless the parachute proved to be successful, then the hombres would live, and continue to mass produce.

SO--ANGERED by being duped twice.. we ditched the cool hang glide plans, and decided that if we were lucky enough... we'd just chuck the next one right out the window. Needless to say.. we caught ONE... and gave him 2 minutes of last words... "meep meep"...and...."whooosh" out the window of the 11 story building. Hombre is dead. Now....if we can catch his girlfriend....we'll be in business.

PS... sorry mousey.. but you had to go.

East Harlem CSI

So... I saw my first "in-person-real-life" dead person. We were at the boat house near Harlem, and right before we were about to leave, all these police cars and police boats come rushing to the boat house. Turns out they were there to collect a dead guy floating in the water---yeah, pretty gross. So yes, it was quite the eventful day. What was even weirder was that they were so nonchalant about it.... and they were making jokes and didn't care if we were close. They "kind of" cleared us away, but they didn't make us leave. It was strange and very unreal.

In a nutshell...that's New York. And that's the river I row on everyday. The dirty river with dead bodies floating in it. Gross.

Here's a little something something... to remember the event. Those khaki pants is the said "dead-guy" I wonder if I could get money for these shots? ha. gross.

Kinda hurt... kinda sad...

So...with tons of crew practice, it's finally taken it's toll on my body. Specifically my back and my knees...which means I can't practice. I go to practice, but I can't do anything affecting those areas. Which ALSO means, I probably wont be able to participate in my first regatta on March 25. (sorry mama and papa :(...) I'm sad too. But I've been the to dr. I'm taking a high dosage anti-inflammatory, and I'm s-l-o-w-l-y making a recovery, and I'm STILL showing up for practice TWICE a day! No spring break for me :( But I can't wait to see mom and dad and show them NY and my little ol' shoebox. I love you fam. I miss you. AND I LOVE BABY WILLEM!!! yay!

Saturday, March 3, 2007

I LOVE NY!

Saturday morning...if only I could sleep in...but...I am off to practice. With a hurt back and knee--maybe I'll get sent home? hehehe....probably not.

I wish all of you were here with me in NY. It would be SO cool to show you around, plus it is so gorgeous outside right now. It's nearly 50 degrees out, and not a cloud in the sky, and its bright blue! Amazing....so....come out to NY already! :) I can't wait for Mom and Dad to come to NY...OR should I say... Grammie and Grandpa! Yay! :)

Well I'm off to practice....and I've decided that in addition to studying today--I'm going to do something FUN in NY.... maybe even add a trip to Brooklyn to go to Target! Oh yes. I love you all. And Weston----get Grammie and Grandpa using their blog.

Friday, March 2, 2007

All because of Weston....

So...after Weston sent his oh-so-beautiful-oh-so-perfect-magazine-esque blog....we talked, and decided that as a family, the Maughan's should each have a blog--interconnecting us, and letting each other know whats going on in our lives..all across the country--babies, school, sports, and the like. So this is my new blog. We'll see how it goes, I've been told its better than the myspace crap..so here is my blog from NYC :)
